SEC Chairman Nominee Cox Vows

“Vigorous Enforcement”

In his opening statement in the July 26 hearings, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman nominee Christopher Cox outlined his four top priorities for the SEC under his watch:

  • Vigorous enforcement of securities laws
  • Cultivate respect for the rule of law in our capital markets
  • Make sure the agency's rules are keeping up with changing technologies; and
  • Ensure that financial markets can withstand terror attacks.

Also, if he is confirmed as Chairman, he said the SEC will continue to work with the President’s Working Group on Financial Markets; the Department of the Treasury; the Justice Department; the intelligence community; state and local law enforcement; and “our partners around the world to see to it that American men and women whose savings and jobs depend on the security of our capital markets are as safe and protected as they can be.”
